Sri Lanka Awaits You

travel advisories lifted, don't miss out on an experience of a lifetime

The balmy tropic vibes of the southern coastline, the coconut seller on a rickety old bicycle and the stilt fisherman await you. As do our Cape Weligama chefs who enjoy teaching you the intricacies of our famed spices. The sure-footed tea pluckers that dot our hillside tea fields, in their bright sarees and even brighter smiles await you. As does Bernard, our Tea Trails resident tea planter who passionately narrates the journey of Ceylon tea from leaf to cup. The leopard patrolling her territory awaits you, while the jungle telegraph chatters with alarm at her proximity. Our Wild Coast rangers await you, to share their craft of interpreting the wilderness. Sightings have been phenomenal these past few weeks with multiple sets of leopard cubs, bear cubs and breeding elephant herds all coming out to play at Yala. The warmth of an island people; where a tuk-tuk driver or a corner shop owner is just as friendly and hospitable as the concierge of a luxury hotel, awaits you.

Should I be worried, as a traveler to Sri Lanka?

No. The attacks were the work of a small radicalized group, remnants of which have been rounded up. Although the attack was well-coordinated, our military, intelligence services and police were swift to react, investigate, and neutralize the framework that supported the attacks.

is Sri Lanka at war again?
No. Sri Lanka has enjoyed ten years of peace, reconciliation and economic progression. The Easter attacks were unconnected to the previous conflict. Normalcy has now returned.

Are some parts of the island more dangerous than others?
No. All parts of the island are equally safe – the incidents did not have a geographic bias.

How safe are the Resplendent Ceylon Resorts?
All our hotels take diligent yet discrete measures checking vehicles, baggage and screening those who enter and exit our properties. We have round-the-clock security at our resorts.

Does the situation change day to day?
The situation has normalised and we are glad to see downgrades of travel advisories. Our founder and Managing Director, Malik Fernando, spearheaded the formation of the Tourism Alliance, a private-sector initiative to communicate the ground situation on a regular basis. If you have booked a trip to Sri Lanka or planning, we suggest you visit and sign-up for updates.
