Rising 200 metres sheer from the central plains, Sigiriya is Sri Lanka's most recognisable archaeological monument, a 5th-century rock fortress built by King Kasyapa, its summit once crowned by a palace, its flanks still holding the celebrated Sigiriya frescoes and the polished Mirror Wall. Facing it across the scrub jungle is Pidurangala, a rock monastery older than Sigiriya itself and the finest vantage point from which to view it. This experience departs from Ceylon Tea Trails' own helipad at Dunkeld, tracing a circuit by air over both landmarks -from the folded green hills of tea country to the dry-zone plains below, with a Tea Trails naturalist narrating throughout, before returning to Dunkeld in time for breakfast.
