From the misty tea country to the wilds of Yala and the sun-drenched southern coast, the Sunrise team explored three of Sri Lanka’s most iconic luxury destinations, each offering unforgettable moments and signature experiences.

Ceylon Tea Trails – Immersed in Tea Heritage

The journey began in the lush highlands of Hatton at Ceylon Tea Trails, where Sunrise presenters embraced the heritage and craft of Sri Lanka’s most famous export. Guided by Dilmah Tea Chairman Dilhan C. Fernando and his son Amrit Fernando, they experienced a tea tasting masterclass, sampling delicate single-origin teas and learning the art of brewing the perfect cup.

A highlight was the Tea Tour at Dunkeld Estate, walking among emerald-green bushes, watching the pluckers at work, and visiting the factory to witness how freshly picked leaves are expertly transformed into fine Ceylon tea. Between tea-infused adventures, they enjoyed kayaking on the serene Castlereagh Lake, surrounded by the hills’ tranquil beauty.

Wild Coast Tented Lodge – Adventure in the Wild

The adventure continued at Wild Coast Tented Lodge, on the edge of Yala National Park. Here, the Sunrise crew set out on a thrilling safari, spotting elephants, Crocodiles and exotic birdlife in their natural habitat.

They also took part in the Discover Sri Lankan Cuisine experience, a hands-on journey into the island’s vibrant flavours, from fragrant spices to traditional cooking techniques.

Evenings were marked by signature cocktails under the stars, with the sounds of the jungle as their soundtrack.

Cape Weligama – Coastal Culture and Flavour

The final stop took them to the dramatic clifftop retreat of Cape Weligama, where the ocean framed every moment. Their visit began with a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast with Malik Fernando, featuring hoppers, sambols, and freshly brewed Ceylon tea, served against a backdrop of panoramic ocean views.

They then explored the Cinnamon Experience, discovering the spice’s history, cultivation, and culinary uses. A scenic ride along Weligama Bay took them past bustling fish markets and roadside stalls where they sipped refreshing king coconut. The Sunrise host then embraced the coastal lifestyle with a surfing lesson in the bay’s gentle swells, ending the visit on an exhilarating, sun-soaked note.

From the mountains to the coast, the Sunrise team captured the essence of Sri Lanka. Its warmth, its flavours, and its boundless beauty. Partnering with Dilmah and Resplendent Ceylon, the broadcast brought the island’s charm to a global stage, inspiring travellers to experience it for themselves.

For those who watched from home, the message was clear: Sri Lanka is not just a destination; it is a collection of moments waiting to be lived.
