Honoring a Legacy of Compassion: How Resplendent Ceylon Celebrated Kindness Day 2026
Every year on the 6th of May, the Resplendent Ceylon family comes together for Kindness Day, special day dedicated to honoring the birth and enduring legacy of our beloved late founder, Merrill J. Fernando.
Every year on the 6th of May, the Resplendent Ceylon family comes together for Kindness Day, special day dedicated to honoring the birth and enduring legacy of our beloved late founder, Merrill J. Fernando.
Mr. Fernando famously pioneered the philosophy that “business is a matter of human service.” This year, our resort teams across the island put that beautiful philosophy into motion, rolling up their sleeves to bring comfort, care, and sustainable support to the communities we call home.
Here is a glimpse into how our teams spread kindness this year:

Ahu Bay | Supporting Balapitiya Anula Wijerama Children’s Home
The Ahu Bay team visited the resident girls at the Balapitiya Anula Wijerama Children’s Home, providing them with essential sanitary items and personal care packs to ensure they feel supported, healthy, and cared for.
Kayaam Wellness | Continuing the Journey at Rekawa Kanishta Vidyalaya
Following up on last year’s electrical wiring project, the Kayaam House team returned to Hambantota Rekawa Kanishta Vidyalaya. This year, the focus was on a complete makeover, renovating and painting the school buildings to transform the campus into a vibrant, welcoming, and inspiring space for the young students.
Head Office | Double the Impact
Our Head Office team looked both inward and outward this Kindness Day. They extended a heartfelt thank you to our incredible internal family by distributing dry ration packs to our dedicated Forbes & Walker and Resplendent Ceylon janitorial teams. Simultaneously, they reached out to the broader community, donating dry rations and essential personal care items to the 27 girls residing at the Surasa Special Education School and Home for Girls.

Wild Coast Tented Lodge | Bringing Hope to Hambantota General Hospital
The Wild Coast Tented Lodge team stepped in to offer comfort where it is needed most. The team visited the Cancer Ward at the Hambantota General Hospital, donating essential everyday items, dry food packs for the patients, and vital medical supplies for the ward to ease the burden on both patients and healthcare workers.
Ceylon Tea Trails: Creating Lasting, Sustainable Impact
At Ceylon Tea Trails, the spirit of Kindness Day extended far beyond a single afternoon. The team focused on long-term infrastructure projects designed to uplift local healthcare and education for generations to come:
Glencan Hospital: Initiated a vital upgrade of Ward 01 to drastically improve patient healthcare facilities.
Tientsin School: Began the complete refurbishment of the IT room, ensuring local students gain access to digital learning and future opportunities.
Lethenty Dispensary: Commenced critical renovations of the dispensary, backed by an ongoing commitment to continuously provide essential medicines to the community.
Cape Weligama | A Brighter Ward at Weligama Walana Hospital
Healing environments matter. The Cape Weligama team spent their afternoon celebrating a major milestone at the Weligama Walana Hospital. We are incredibly proud to share that the team successfully completed the full renovation of Ward 01, ensuring patients now have a much brighter, cleaner, and better facility to aid in their care and swift recovery.
“The success of any business is not measured by its profit, but by the difference it makes to the community.”
MERRIL J FERNANDO
Through fresh coats of paint, essential medical supplies, educational support, and daily care packs, the Resplendent Ceylon teams have beautifully proven that our founder’s vision is alive, thriving, and deeply woven into everything we do.
