Safeguarding Our Shores
Cape Weligama Partners with Sri Lanka Life Saving for Community Water Safety Day
At Cape Weligama, our commitment to the coastline goes far beyond offering breathtaking ocean views- it is about ensuring that our waters are safe, resilient, and welcoming for everyone who steps onto our shores.
On June 2nd, the sands of Cape Weligama beach transformed into a vibrant training ground. We proudly partnered with the Sri Lanka Life Saving Association to host a comprehensive Water Safety and Lifesaving Awareness training programme. The initiative brought together our own resort ambassadors and the youth of our local village for a day dedicated to mastering critical, life-saving skills.
To put theory into practice, the Sri Lanka Lifesaving Search and Rescue Team alongside the Police Lifesaving Unit joined forces with our Cape Weligama team to conduct high-visibility mock rescue drills.
The open water exercises simulated real-time emergency responses, giving participants hands-on experience with advanced rescue methodologies:

Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) Rescues:
Teams practiced high-speed ocean navigation and victim retrieval in challenging surf conditions.

Board Rescues:
Participants mastered the agility and timing required to utilize rescue boards for rapid, long-distance ocean saves.
Empowering the Local Community

True coastal safety relies on a collective effort. That is why a core focus of the day was extending vital training to the vital stakeholders of our beach ecosystem.
Specialized water safety education and hands-on CPR training sessions were tailored specifically for local beach boys, ensuring that those who spend every day by the water are empowered to act as immediate first responders. Concurrently, Cape Weligama staff underwent rigorous training to elevate our internal emergency preparedness standards to the highest level.
By upskilling local youth and uniting with national emergency units, we aren’t just training individuals, we are building a human shield of safety along the Weligama coastline.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Sri Lanka Life Saving Association, the Police Lifesaving Unit, and our incredible local community partners for making this day a profound success. Together, we are ensuring that Weligama remains a beautiful, secure paradise for our neighbors and global travelers alike.
