The best restaurants, cafes and bars in Ahangama
It’s no secret that Ahangama houses some of the most Instagrammed dining spots in the island right now. Frequented by digital nomads and those with an eye for design, this once sleepy fishing village has cemented itself as Sri Lanka’s most vibrant surf town, with a continuously evolving food scene.
Ahangama has evolved from a sleepy fishing village into one of Sri Lanka’s most vibrant coastal destinations. Its surf breaks and palm-fringed beaches are now surrounded by a constantly evolving mix of cafés, rooftop bars, beachside restaurants, pizzerias and design-led dining spaces. What makes the town particularly appealing is the variety: mornings begin with excellent coffee and leisurely breakfasts, afternoons unfold over fresh seafood and cocktails, and evenings bring sunset drinks, intimate dinners and lively bars.
There is a distinctly international energy to Ahangama, but the best places remain closely connected to the island. Local produce, seafood, tropical fruit, Sri Lankan spices and native spirits appear throughout menus, while a new generation of chefs and restaurateurs continues to experiment with Japanese, Italian, French, Peruvian and contemporary Sri Lankan influences.
Whether you have just come in from the surf, are looking for a slow breakfast or want somewhere to watch the sunset with a cocktail, these are some of our favourite places to eat and drink in and around Ahangama.

Hotel De Uncles
Hotel de Uncles brings a lively bar atmosphere to the Ahangama coastline. Originally known for its Colombo outpost, the Ahangama location has developed a following of its own, combining Sri Lankan food, creative cocktails and a social atmosphere.
The menu gives familiar island dishes a contemporary treatment, while the drinks are a major part of the appeal. Order a cocktail, find a seat on the deck and stay through sunset.

Le Café French Bistro
Tucked down a small lane, Le Café is one of Ahangama’s more charming dining discoveries. The open-air French-style bistro and bakery combines freshly made breads, pastries and desserts with a menu of French classics.
