The Buzz is Back: Cape Weligama and Dilmah Conservation Welcome New Bee Boxes
In partnership with Dilmah Conservation, we successfully installed two active bee boxes. This is a direct, hands-on commitment to protecting our environment.
This project required the best knowledge available. Our team was trained and guided by top specialists. Dr. Anura Sirisena (Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University) provided the essential training and Malinga Aththanyake (Technical Consultant) ensured the precise installation and setup of the boxes. We commit to ethical and highly effective beekeeping practices, ensuring the colonies thrive under expert guidance.
Why This Matters Now
Bee populations are declining. We must act. Bees are critical to survival; they are the planet’s main pollinators.
1. Food Security: Bees pollinate one-third of the food we eat globally.
2. Ecosystem Health: They maintain local plant life and biodiversity.
By creating a managed, safe habitat, we directly support the local bee population and reinforce the health of our surrounding environment.
While conservation is the mission, the result is pure, natural honey—a direct product of our healthy ecosystem.
This honey is more than a sweetener; it is a valued natural product:
1. High in Antioxidants: It provides key health benefits through natural compounds.
2. Natural Remedy: It has a long history of use as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent.
We look forward to sharing this sustainably harvested product with our guests. The return of the bees at Cape Weligama is proof that direct, strategic conservation efforts work. We thank Dilmah Conservation for their vital partnership.
