The Legacy of Geoffrey Bawa is immortal. To this date his masterpieces amaze the world and inspire thousands of young aspiring architects. Embedded in his work are snippets of clues that give you a hint of his character, his inspiration and what kept his spark alive. Understand the legend, appreciate the art and inspire your senses on our quest to find Bawa and his circle of arts aficionados.

Starting Point

Our starting point is at the magnum opus of Georffrey Bawa’s work, the stunning Lunuganga, where we deep dive into his work and understand the concept of tropical modernism. At the conclusion of the tour, we will have a nice lunch at Lunuganga. We then move on to Brief Gardens, designed by Bevis Bawa, Geoffrey’s brother. Here we get an insight to Geoffrey Bawa’s family and his upbringing and also get an opportunity to appreciate the beautiful gardens of Brief.

Lunch With A View

Our last stop for the day is at Bentota Beach Hotel; one of his best commercial works. Here we get an insight to the arts circles he associated with including icons like Barbara Sansoni. Laki Senanayake, Ismath Raheem, Dominic Sansoni and Ena De Silva. At the end of the tour, you will be served a soft beverage.

Your Characterd Architecture: Ashan Algama

Ashan Algama: Ashan Algama is Chartered Architect of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and holds a Master of Architecture & Environmental design from University of The West of England, UK. He is also a member of the Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA) Enterprising, Inventive, and creatively independent he is a professional with over 12 years’ experience of streamlining architectural design process from conceptualization through overall project completion. With his experience in a myriad of project typologies, he strives to further progress and improve his creative sense in the field of architecture with every project he takes on. Ashan enjoys creating spaces that are dynamic, playful, and purposeful, and derives inspiration from nature, and technology to create progressive and innovative architecture. Art comes naturally to Ashan as he is actively involved in stage drama as well as being a talented musician.

Inclusions & Things to Know

Includes: Chartered architect host. Entrance to Brief Garden, entrance and lunch at Lunuganga, Bentota Beach Hotel tour, a soft beverage at Bentota Beach Hotel.

Duration: Half Day (4 – 5 hours)

Suitable for children: Yes, if they are interested in architecture. (6 years and above)

Meeting time: 10.15 AM

What to wear or bring along: Your camera and yourself. Light comfortable clothing (sleeved tops or scarf, pants or skirt should be below the knee for temple visit)

Important info: You will travel on this experience both by vehicle and by foot.

Making the most of it: You are welcome to interact with your host and ask as many questions as you need.

Number of guests: Minimum 2 and Maximum 15 (If one guest wishes to participate in the experience, there will be an extra charge of USD 243 in addition to the per person rate.)

Bookings cancelled between 7 – 2 days prior to the tour, 50% cancellation applies

Booking cancelled within 48 hours before the tour, full cancellation applies
