What to pack on Safari

A stay at Wild Coast Lodge is a unique and memorable experience. And to ensure you get the most from your trip, here’s our guide on what to pack for your first Sri Lankan glamping experience.

Firstly, keep in mind that Yala National Park is hot and dry for most part of the year with lows from the mid 20’s ranging to highs in the mid 30’s (Celsius). The region however receives rain towards the end of the year with an annual monsoon.

Clothing

Cotton clothing in neutral colours is recommended for all game drives and bush walks. Beige, khakis and greens in particular.

Wild Coast Tented Lodge does not have a formal dress code so you can be as comfortable as you like. Some guests do enjoy dressing up for sundowners and dinner though.

A wrap or shawl and one pair of trousers or long skirt to wear to any cultural sites to cover shoulders and legs as they request conservative attire in some places

A baklava or face bandana for game drives is recommended as the park can get quite dusty in the dry season

Comfortable walking shoes/track shoes/hiking boots for nature walks; flip-flops are fine to wear around the lodge but we recommend sandals.

Do bring swimming costume/bathing suits, sun block, sun hat, sunglasses, lip balm, mosquito repellent (mosquito repellent is provided for all our guests, but you are welcome to bring along your favourite brand).

Free laundry (up to 5 pieces per person per day) is also included in your Fully Inclusive rate, helping you pack less and travel lighter.

We provide toilet and shower amenities, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Camera Gear

Considering the abundance of wildlife you will see both on resort as well as in the national park, camera equipment with memory cards with batteries and chargers are highly recommended. We offer our guests one pair of binoculars per shared jeep, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Other Gear

All our plug points (sockets) are 240V and adaptable to most universal plug types. However for less common appliances we suggest you bring your own adapter. (240V to 120V adapters may not work in our tents and we advise against using them).

  • The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (also known as drones) is discouraged at Wild Coast Lodge as we are within the confines of the national park and the Department of Wildlife has the right to confiscate them. Since they also disturb guests and privacy, please get in touch with our team if you require one.
  • Please note that in the event of rain during a game drive, waterproof ponchos will be provided for guests’ comfort.

Medication

All of our lodges are located in remote areas and therefore guests should remember to bring an extra pair of correction glasses (if required), contact lens solution and an extra set of contact lenses (if required) as well as a sufficient supply of any prescription medication.

We hope this covers some of your most common questions, but please feel free to write to us at reservations@resplendetceylon.com with specific questions and we’ll be happy to answer them for you.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
